We all have planned our great escape. For me it was planned over the course of 17 years. The world was big but California felt bigger. There had to be more to life than Chicago and the first chance I was given I headed west. During the summer I had the opportunity to visit my biological father in LA, and that's all I needed to make my decision. A city where I could reinvent myself over and over and over. What they don’t tell you is that the more you reinvent yourself the more you lose yourself in the process. Eventually the you that you’d started with is so far removed that not even you recognize that person. Eventually the luster that once was fades and you must start over completely. For me that day began in therapy.
