Freedom is not always clean. Sometimes it comes layered with the weight of everything you had to push through to get there. These hands represent both the lift and the burden. They remind me of how often we are shaped by the people who helped us, and the people we had to pull away from. This is about the complexity of breaking free. The illusion that freedom is just about movement, when really it is also about memory. You may be flying, but you’re still carrying it all with you. That is what this piece feels like—beautiful, necessary, and heavy.
