One of my favorite games growing up was hide-and-seek. I was especially good at hiding in plain sight. That unlikely skill followed me into the real world. I moved through spaces just enough to be forgettable and memorable at the same time. For years, I was the snap-your-fingers, look-up-and-try-to-place-him person. That was the safest way for me to exist. Letting people in felt like an invasion, even from those closest to me. So I lived the most private life I could, right out in the open.
