A constant theme in my earlier life was my ability to acclimate to any environment. I was the faceless man at so many functions. Granted access by association, I felt like a king, a faceless one, with nothing to show for it. The temporary satisfaction of being elevated in status always disappeared by night’s end. Each night felt like a lifetime because by morning, it was back to reality, back to being nobody.
